Sylvia
Parental guidance suggested
January 8 through January 31, 2010

What can a dog offer its owner? Laughter, enjoyment and good company. But what if this little creature becomes a barrier between you and your wife, then what?

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

The E-Project announces their 2010 SEASON

My Fair Lady

Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner

Music by Frederick Loewe

The perfect musical! The rags-to-riches story of Eliza Doolittle, a flower girl who joins English high society just by learning to speak correctly from the famous Prof. Henry Higgins, is one of the greatest stories ever set to music. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, this show is sure to be a delight for audiences of all ages.

Medea

Based on the original Greek version by Euripides

The perfect tragedy! Medea is the ultimate story of a woman in crisis, blind-sided by the unfair rules of a man’s world. Her choice to take matters into her own hands and sacrifice what she loves most to exact her revenge is still one of the most shocking stories ever written. Dark, bloody, and powerful, this show will redefine the way you experience theater at The E! Not suitable for younger viewers.

Gentleman Prefer Blondes

By Anita Loos, dramatized by Kristin Sergel

Apparently nothing goes right when steamlines cross the Atlantic! Set in the roaring 20’s,  Lorelei and Dorothy are about to embark on a learning trip through Europe… chaperoned of course, by Lorelei’s father. But when the girls must travel on their own, sweet Lorelei and her constant forgetfulness threaten their ability to fufil they’re real plans of finding “cultured”  European men to marry.

Shakespeare to the Letter

By Shakespeare, kinda

What happens when a group of actors tackle every letter in every play ever written by Shakespeare and perform them all in 90 minutes or less? Shakespeare to the Letter: a hilarious night of your favorite (and soon to be favorite) excerpts from Billy Shakes. Expect fast-action comedy, ridiculous flubs, and lots of letters flying everywhere! Join us for our Summer of Shakespeare, as …to the Letter is run in conjunction with our PAAL summer camps, where our camp kids will also be working with material by the Bard.

The Threepenny Opera

Book and lyrics by Bertolt Brecht

Music by Kurt Weill

The world we only hint to in My Fair Lady is explored in all its seediness in The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper in German). The beggers, pimps, and whores of London’s underbelly take us on a trip with Mack the Knife, his new bride, her parents, and the crooked cops of Olde London Towne.  Adapted from the 18th-century English ballad opera, John Gay’s The Beggar’s Opera, the famous music of Kurt Weill will come alive in ways you’ve never dreamed. Not suitable for our younger viewers.

The Nutcracker

A new play adaptation!

The holidays is the perfect time to bring everyone together and celebrate the love we share, and what better way to celebrate this than with our own version of the Christmas classic, The Nutcracker.  The story by E. T. A. Hoffmann lives in the music of Tchaikovsky’s ballet, and music lovers won’t be disappointed when they hear all their favorite tunes accompanying the actors, where we learn a lot more about our Nutcracker, the Mouse King, and the joy of children’s dreams.

Baskstage Theatre in Breckenridge presents:

A Taste of Broadway

a fundraiser for Backstage Theatre

You are invited to take part in a very special evening of good food, excellent wines, and exceptional Broadway-style musical entertainment.

The Bill of Fare
Whether hot or cold, sunny, raining, or snowing, it’s always nice enough out to try some wines! And, to ensure enjoyable palates, it’s even nicer to have appetizers to go along with them. Better yet, if you join us for wines and appetizers, you will help support the Backstage Theatre.

The wines will vary from light to heavy and from white to red. And the appetizers will be on the “heavy” side so you won’t watch the show hungry.

Wine and appetizers are kindly arranged by Backstage Theatre supporters, Rhona and David Pessel.

The Production
The talent for this evening includes cast members from our current hit producton of The Fantasticks – Matt Dailey who plays Matt, Whitney Semin who plays Luisa, David Ambroson who plays El Gallo, and Mary Gottlieb, music director and pianist extraordinaire. Joining this stellar group will be Doug Webster, previously seen at the Backstage in Cannibal the Musical, and Lisa Finnerty, Denver singer featured in many shows at the Town Hall Arts Center. This extraordinarily talented group of singers will perform some of their favorite Broadway songs in an intimate cabaret evening you won’t want to miss. Technical support and direction will be provided by Christopher Willard.
