Local actor and genuinely wonderful person Mary McGroary has lost all her earthly possesions as well as her beloved dog Rosie  in the flood that devastated a Cherry Creek area apartment complex.  Mary is currently performing in Boulder Dinner Theatre’’s production of Annie. Mary has been seen in numerous Colorado productions at theatres including BDT, Country Dinner Playhouse and the Town Hall Arts Center.

PLEASE check out John Moore’s blog at the Denver Post to read more about Mary’s story and to see how you can help.

ABOUT THE PLAY:
As this wonderful play opens, an old hobo named Poppy, accompanied by his avid companion, young Davey Quinn, is telling a tall tale. It is the early 1890s and itinerant story tellers like Poppy are the voices of the prairie. Years later, Davey is discovered by a radio pitch man while he is telling stories about Poppy and Frankie, a blind girl he rescued from a cruel father. Quinn becomes famous sending his stories into the “Ethernet” through the infant industry of radio as the Voice of the Prairie. Frankie hears Davey’s stories and reenters his life as the FCC threatens them all for broadcasting without a license.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Phil Gottlieb’s passing. Phil was a much-loved member of the Colorado theatre community and will be missed by so many. It was my privilege to work with Phil in several productions; in fact, he cast me in my first substantial role here in Denver. We shared the stage in other productions and I was lucky enough to also work with his wonderful wife Mary, and his two fantastic sons, Chris and Matt. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gottlieb family in this difficult time.

You can learn more about Phil in John Moore’s article at the Denver Post online: Family to honor Phil Gottlieb by playing on. The article notes “Services are expected to be 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Ave.” I will update if this information changes.
